What is confirmed: on Scientist mode (the recommended, balanced experience) the pacing is gentle enough that a launch reviewer described even Survivalist difficulty as still not overbearing. What is also confirmed: your mode choice changes the math fundamentally, and you lock that choice at world creation. So instead of chasing phantom numbers, learn the feel of your own save. Do a few short loops out and back on day one, watch how much of the meter a ten-minute Valley walk costs, and calibrate every later expedition against that baseline. The Immunity Pump: your ticket to longer trips

Green Naga is a Headlands herb that is poisonous when eaten raw, and Silver hides behind a crouch-height cave entrance according to the same guide circuit — meaning the pump is deliberately gated behind your first real trip out of the Valley. Graphite shows up in rocky areas and shares routes with Magnetite toward the volcano, so you can bundle the pump shopping list with your Drone Builder run (which needs Magnetite and Carbon Fiber) instead of making two separate expeditions. What the survey log does not say is how IM-X interacts with the Immunity meter numerically — whether a tea pauses the drain, refunds a chunk of the meter, or grants temporary resistance. As of launch week that interaction is unverified, and we are not going to invent a number for you. The practical play: when you start pushing into Headlands caves for Cobalt Sargent itself, harvest it every time you see it, brew it at your Cooker (the same station that makes herbal teas and smoothies), and treat the result as a bonus rather than a plan. Your plan is still the pump plus the sealed base.

Difficulty modes change the math — and you can't change it back

The four game modes are not cosmetic. Scientist is the recommended balance. Survivalist is explicitly described as a mode where your vital stats, such as immunity, will deplete much faster. Space Hell keeps that same punishing drain and adds permanent death. Engineer mode hands you the sliders, including a named immunity drain rate adjustment, alongside stamina drain, animal aggression, river force and material occurrence multipliers. The fix is boring and total: decide your turnaround point when you leave, at roughly half your comfortable range, and honor it even when the next scan target is right there.

Second mistake: treating the first Headlands trip as a sightseeing stroll.
